Open Skies Pact enhances US – Dominican Travel

The United States and the Dominican Republic entered into a new Air Transport Agreement on December 19, 2024, marking a significant step in modernizing their civil aviation relationship. The agreement aligns with the U.S. Open Skies policy and includes provisions for unrestricted capacity and frequency of services, open route rights, a liberal charter regime, expanded all-cargo rights, and open code-sharing opportunities. It also reinforces both countries’ commitment to high standards of aviation safety and security.

This bilateral agreement advances the liberalization of international air travel in the Western Hemisphere and deepens the economic and commercial ties between the United States and the Dominican Republic. By removing government interference in airline decisions related to routes, capacity, and pricing, it allows carriers to respond more flexibly to market demands—supporting more affordable and efficient services for travelers and shippers alike.

The agreement is part of the broader U.S. effort to expand Open Skies partnerships globally. The United States now has reciprocal agreements with over 130 partners, with more than 70 percent of international departures from the U.S. flying to Open Skies countries. These agreements have contributed to increased travel, trade, and job creation across the aviation and tourism sectors while promoting connectivity and economic growth on a global scale.
